Eat'n Heathy Before its Time

Now I am not saying we should not eat healthy but let's talk about a few eating habits.

There are three people who impressed me with their eating and what does it say about their personalities or tendencies.

AJ Jacques and Jim Heath with Dave Jacques peaking around on the right
First there was AJ Jacques (see picture).   Jimmy Heath is in the picture but his eating habits were about the same as mine so there is not much of a story on him.  AJ could order a burger while waiting on a chili pie and before they could get him change he could eat the hamburger.  For those who do not know a Frito pie is a bag of Fritos with onions and chili served in the bag at the old Dixie Dog in Shidler, probably served by Cindy Hustead, Marilyn Bivins or one of the other folks who worked there.  Who all did work there?  Let me know and we will get a reunion or something going.  Now you have to ask yourself what did that say about AJ?  First AJ did not seem in a hurry but he could take a bite out of a sandwich and ready for the next faster than you can swallow jello.  What I think it says is that AJ was efficient and had things to do.  Perhaps that is why he is another success story out of Shidler.

Next there was Harold Codding, Chuckles, and becuase he was always getting ready for sports he was very consciencious about his eating.  Once he and I were getting a hamburger at a Dixie Dog in Pawhuska and he asked for two hamburgers without the buns and no lettuce or pickles or onions.  The girl looked at him (now Harold was use to this becuase ALL girls looked at him and I was jealous) and crossed her eyes and said, "What?".  He proceeded in his extremely cordial way to tell her again he wanted two hamburgers without the bun, lettuce, tomato, pickle or onion.  He then told her he would be willing to pay for two burgers but just did not want all the extras.  She of course went to get the manager to interpret and figure out a price.  I was thinking this is pretty funny especially when they finally brought two hamburger patties on one of those wax coated sheets of paper.  But the best is yet to come.  While the lady was getting change Harold took those patties and put them between a pile of napkins on top and bottom and started pressing them right on the counter.  He was getting the grease out.  Then he started eating them just as the lady brought his change.  I still laugh when I think about it.  Harold still laughs because he is healthy and good looking and ...

Then there was my Dad.  By the way in the picture is Preston, my youngest son and Dad with a wig.  Dad ate bacon and eggs with toast almost every day of his life for breakfast plus beef or ham for lunch and dinner.  He topped everything off with as much salt as humanly possible to pour on his food and I do mean all of it.  He did put on a lot of weight and got up to almost 155 lbs.  Now they say that will kill you and I suppose it did but Dad was 87 when he passed away.  Sideline: Kerney Graham the long ago pastor of the Shidler, Grainola and Foraker Methodist church performed the funeral and did a great job.  One of the things I really liked was when he said that we were on one side of a lake waiving goodbye and all of those who went before us were on the other side saying, "Welcome home".

Anyway dad ate more than his fair share of collesterol and fats and salts and red meat that all the doctors say will kill you and he lived a great life and was a great dad.

What do we learn here is that NO ONE has all the answers or is right ALL the time even if you are a republican or a democrat.  So, stop voting on the party and vote for what is right.  You decide and that is what is great about America.

Let Freedom Ring and thank you to all the veterans.

Thanks for your time,
